Grief makes a home in the body.
Burrows deep beneath the skin
And settles in the bones.
It becomes the cells in the blood.
Fuels the air in the lungs.
And when it seeks to act out,
It strikes where we’ll feel it most --
The heart.
We may retaliate with tears
As the grief streaks our faces,
But it finds its way back inside.
To live.
To shelter.
To fester.
And become inextricably part of our DNA.
It changes you
Irrevocably.
When it chooses you,
You’ll never be the you you once were.
Grief makes a home in this body.
